The Aswan Quarry - Was a HUGE Megalith Extracted in Pre-Dynastic Times?
In a rarely seen part of the ancient granite quarry in Aswan, Egypt, there is evidence for a gigantic block, possibly larger than the unfinished obelisk being extracted in ancient times. What's more, there are strong indications here that this was done in pre-dynastic times, before the Ancient Egyptian civilization ever begun their own quarrying operations on this site.
Join me as we investigate the so-called 'harbor' area of the quarry, and examine the evidence for pre-dynastic quarry operations, and the removal of a massive block of granite in antiquity.
Many thanks to Simon Reynolds of Kinetik for the awesome new intro animation!

The Mystery of the Unfinished Obelisk of Aswan, Egypt | Ancient Architects
From the archive, a video made two years ago but updated with some new information.
The famous #UnfinishedObelisk of #Egypt, which still sits in a granite quarry in Aswan, is known for its massive size, but also because the work that was carried out on it was never completed.
Had it been finished, it would have been the largest obelisk ever constructed by the #AncientEgyptians. Nevertheless, the fact that it remains in an unfinished state has given us the opportunity to learn more about the ways the ancient Egyptians produced these colossal, important and iconic structures, but is it as straight forward as Egyptologists say, or does the creation of these enormous granite #obelisks still remain a mystery?

Hope for Egypt's Nubians in First-Ever Inclusion | National Geographic
Egyptians in January overwhelmingly approved a referendum on a draft constitution that for the first time included mention of Nubians. Many Nubians were relocated for construction of the Aswan High Dam some 50 years ago, and they now hope they can return to their historic homeland by the Nile.

Aswan Dam Chronicles: Bridging Ancient Mythology and Modern Engineering | SLICE TRAVEL | PART 4
The Nile has always organised the life of Egyptians down to the smallest details. But as well as being a life force, the river is synonymous with danger. And at the time of the Pharaohs, anything that represented a threat was turned into a deity.
If there was a bad flood, it was because Khnum was unhappy. The "master of waters", with his ram's head, is one most important gods in the Egyptian pantheon: he controls the Nile floods. Khnum resides on Elephantine Island, which is the focal point of his kingdom, the First Cataract.
The Nile's flood waters no longer reach the First Cataract. A few kilometres upstream from Elephantine Island, a concrete and steel monstrosity is blocking the way, bringing this capricious river under control.
The Aswan Dam has usurped Khnum, the god of the flood...

2025 Lexus ES Revealed - This luxury sedan is more modern and versatile!
The Lexus ES is one of the best sedan vehicles of its kind. The current iteration has been in continuous production since 2018, and a complete redesign is expected for the 2025 model year. Here's all the information we have about the updated 2025 Lexus ES, according to initial reports. An overhaul of the midsize luxury vehicle is in the works for the 2025 model year. Lexus is remaining tight-lipped about design details of the next ES, but we can assume the iconic spindle grille will give it a strong presence. A number of improvements, concentrated at the front, await the Lexus ES for 2025. The replacement of the old bulbs with LEDs is a marked improvement over the previous model. LED lamps that, although they look simple, are modern, simple and balanced. Very likely. With the conservative ...

The Aswan Dam has usurped Khnum, the god of the floods. At over 4km long and 111 metres high, the dam is a match for the Great Pyramid, taking up 17 times more space. Since it was built in 1970, this giant structure has transformed Egypt.

Aswan, Egypt - After taking the overnight sleeper train from Cairo to Aswan, it was time to begin our Nile River Cruise from Aswan to Luxor.
Before we even got to see the cruise ship, from the Aswan Train Station, we met our Aswan guide for the day and immediately boarded a small boat en route to the Philae Temple.
The pyramids of Giza are incredible structures, but this is something completely different. The Philae Temple complex is primarily dedicated to the Egyptian Goddess, Isis, the mother of all gods, goddess of the sky, moon, healing, and magic among other spiritual powers.
It served as a protective boundary and barracks for Egyptian Pharaohs, and then also for the Greeks and Romans during each of their respective time controlling this region. Which is why you can see Monuments of varies eras extending from the Pharaohs to the Caesars. Including an amazing structure called Trajan’s Kiosk, the unfinished monument dedicated to the Roman Emperor, Trajan.
From the Philae Temple, we made our way back down the Nile River past Aswan. The city of Aswan was a frontier town of Ancient Egypt, even mentioned in the bible under its original name.
Aswan was a trade center, serving as the gateway to Sudan and Ethiopia. Occupied by the Persians, then the Greeks and then the Romans, I mean, we’re traversing up one of the most important waterways in the history of the world, it’s just crazy to wrap my head around.
To this day, one indigenous group still calls this place home - the Nubians.
The Nubian People are an ethnic group who are indigenous to Nubia or the modern day region of northern Sudan and southern Egypt. Nubians originate from the early inhabitants of the central Nile Valley, and they speak their own Nubian languages, as well as Arabic and some English.
While this is considered a traditional Nubian village, I highly doubt their ancestors sold so many plastic camels. However, they are a trading people, and for today’s Nubians here, they’re trading handmade trinkets and souvenirs for foreigner cash. They’re survivalists.
Now, I still can’t figure out if this place is showcasing Nubian culture or exploiting it, but, I would have loved to stay here longer to see beyond the colorful exteriors.
From here, we head back to Aswan in time for sunset and to check into our Nile River Cruise.
The next morning, we take a three hour drive south, to Abu Simbel, the grand temples of Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II.
Ramesses built Abu Simbel to impress upon the people in this region of Egypt’s great power and control as this area was an important source of gold and other precious trade goods.
Perhaps the most incredible aspect of this site is that fact that in 1968, the entire complex was moved to this artificial hill, piece by piece, exactly how it was found from it’s original resting place to avoid being flooded by the creation of a man-made lake.
From here, we head back to our Nile River Cruise parked in Aswan to continue our cruise north to Luxor.
I hope you enjoyed this Egypt Travel Vlog from Aswan, Egypt as much as we did making it! ❤️ If so, please hit that "👍" button, and leave a comment!
See ya next week!

With the conservative styling and rear lightbar of the current ES, Lexus may give us a bolder ES in 2025. At this time, there is no word on whether the 2025 model will get new engine options. The 2024 ES is offered with three different powerplants. The standard engine for the base model is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder producing 203 horsepower. If you're looking for additional power, you can choose between a 215-horsepower four-cylinder hybrid engine and a 302-horsepower 3.5L V6. Although it's just speculation, there is a possibility that a plug-in hybrid variant will also be included in the lineup. Additionally, we expect front-wheel drive to be standard and all-wheel drive to be optional. While Lexus hasn't said anything about pricing or a release date for the 2025 ES, we expect to see it in 2019 at dealers. Prices for the 2024 ES range from $43,190 to $53,480; we expect prices to rise slightly to reflect the redesign in 2025.
